From Our Principal: Dear School
Families and Interested Friends;
Since the Bishop’s announcement of the merged schools of St. John
and Holy Saviour, our school communities have been working hard to
provide for a smooth transition. A transition team of very dedicated
people have worked many hours so that we can provide a premier
Catholic school in this area of the diocese. I am so pleased to work
with such a dedicated team of professionals.
We have assembled a very strong faculty who bring much expertise and
years of experience in Catholic education. I am confident that our
newly combined faculty are Catholic educators of the highest quality
and equally important, they are people of faith. I am very excited
to work
with this team.
The Bishop has approved our new name: Good Shepherd Regional
Catholic School. We
embrace this name as we will gather our children and become good
shepherds in giving them
a faith-filled education. This name will bring about a new identity
which we will develop
with Jesus at the center of all we do.
Our newly merged school will embark on some new programs to provide
our children with a quality education. While we will continue to
provide differentiated instruction, our fifth through eighth grades
will offer an accelerated math program to conclude with a full year
of high school algebra in grade 8 to those students who qualify.
Our middle school will be offering an elective program to provide
for life skills, and exploratory courses in other disciplines. This
program is in the developing stages but will be ready for the fall
of 2008.
We will also continue and improve on basic skills. We maintain that
some basic information needs to be committed to memory. Yet,
emphasis is placed on understanding concepts,
not just repeating rote facts and formulas.
We are looking forward to more parent involvement in the coming
year. We will develop a program whereby parents can offer their
expertise in various ways throughout the school day. We believe the
parents of our children will be valuable assets to our educational
program.
We recognize that St. John and Holy Saviour Schools have a strong
history of faith development and academic excellence. Both schools
have remained a vibrant, faith-filled community of learners. It is
with sadness that we close both schools this June as part of the
diocesan
consolidation of schools. On April 20, 2008 at a special 2 PM
liturgy at St. John’s Church we will celebrate the formation of our
new school. This liturgy will be followed with a reception and open
house of our school.
Looking to the future, it is with real joy that we will open Good
Shepherd Regional Catholic School.
